1 In Cosmos

I am the founder of Cosmos and I provide the Web space for the CosmosWiki on a portion of my personal webserver.

My costs for running Cosmos are about 112 EUR per month, plus 10-15 EUR per year.

2 Other projects

See also my other wikis:

  • AlgoLibre.org is an effort to provide free computing infrastructure to free software developers and other volunteers in the open-source movement.
  • Wikinerds.org is a wiki for nerds.

3 Traditional academia

In Cosmos I am trying to invent my own approach to knowledge, research, and education by re-inventing academia and doing anything from scratch. However, I am also a graduate and a postgraduate student in the traditional academia. I thought fellow members of Cosmos may like to know my position within traditional academia, so here it is:

  • 2006 - November 2008 (expected): Part-time student towards an MSc Master of Science in Management from University of Teesside (UK) and Mediterranean University College (Greece). Full programme is 180 CATS or 90 ECTS of which I have completed 60 CATS or 30 ECTS. Working title of Master's thesis (dissertation): On swarm intelligence metaheuristics, adaptive collaborative networks, and emergent rationalisation in organisations.
  • 2002 - 2005 (3 years): BSc(Hons III) Bachelor of Science with third class Honours in Computer Science from Bangor University (Wales UK) and Mediterranean University College (Greece). 360 CATS, 180 ETCS. Bachelor's dissertation (thesis) title: Online documentation systems, wikis, and content management systems (CMS).

I have also taken some postgraduate courses from Open University (UK):

  • 5 May 2007 - 11 October 2007: Open University (UK) postgraduate course Web Systems Integration (15 CATS or 7.5 ECTS). Linked towards a PgDip in Networks and Distributed Systems.

In addition, I have also taken some undergraduate courses from Open University (UK):

  • 17 February 2007 - 12 September 2007: Open University (UK) undergraduate level 1 course Understanding Human Nutrition (10 CATS or 5 ECTS). Linked towards a BSc(Hons) in Natural Sciences.
  • May 2006 - October 2006: Open University (UK) undergraduate level 1 course Planets: An Introduction (10 CATS or 5 ECTS). Linked towards a BSc(Hons) in Natural Sciences.
  • May 2006 - October 2006: Open University (UK) undergraduate level 1 course Mathematics for Science (10 CATS or 5 ECTS). Linked towards a BSc(Hons) in Natural Sciences.

In full, at all universities I have registered to, I have successfully completed 465 CATS (or 232.5 ECTS), which in my Cosmocred system correspond to 581.25 cc (or the equivalent number of 8-hour workdays of study).

There are many schools at which I had applied for study and I was accepted to, but I never did courses there. These include:

  • Conditional acceptance in 2006 for the PgCert Postgraduate Certificate in Computer Security (leading to an MSc in Software Engineering) from University of Oxford's Postgraduate distance learning programme in software engineering (with interview). I was attracted there for Oxford's reputation, but later I decided to do my MSc in Management.
  • Unconditional acceptance in 2007 for the MSc Master of Science in Bioinformatics from University of Exeter's distance learning programme in bioinformatics. I was attracted there for the nerd factor and interdisciplinary nature of the degree, considered doing it along with my MSc in Management, but I later decided not to pursue two Master's at the same time while also undertaking professional activity.

1999 - 2001: I also have vocational training (2-year IEK, which is similar to HND, in Computer Applications Specialist).

Finished 1998: secondary formal education (Lyceum, economics, history, writing, mathematics).

I am also a member of various societies (read more on my affiliations).

4 Learning

I enjoy learning on my own by reading books and academic journals (read more on my books or my self-directed learning).
